Check out what we're doing!
In spite of the extra hot weather we had at the beginning of school, the 2nd and 3rd graders have gotten off to a great start this year! Afternoon recess wasn’t that much fun because of the extreme heat, but we managed to make it through the hot days by using our air conditioner and drinking lots of water.
In Science the 2nd and 3rd graders are studying reptiles, amphibians, insects, birds, fish, and mammals. We have enjoyed learning about the different classifications of animals and what criteria the animal needs to meet in order to be in a certain classification. If any of the students would like to bring an animal in to visit our classroom it would be great. Please check with me ahead of time, however.
The 3rd graders have been reading the story “Ronald Morgan Goes to Camp” during reading class. It is a story about a boy that goes to summer camp and it takes him awhile to adjust to his surroundings. It is a funny and enjoyable story!
The 2nd graders are reading “Days With Frog and Toad” in reading class. This is a story about friendship. Toad goes looking for Frog one day and he discovers Frog has gone out to an island. Toad fixes a picnic lunch and tries to swim to the island. During the swim, the lunch tips over and gets wet. However, Frog eats the soggy lunch because he doesn’t want to hurt Toad’s feelings and he wants to be a good friend to Toad.
2nd and 3rd graders have been doing a lot of reviewing in math class. We have also been measuring things, using pattern blocks, and looking up information on our birthday graphs.
We have been doing map work in social studies class. This has been an ongoing project since the first week of school.
We have been labeling subjects, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and article adjectives in Shurley English class.
